The good news is that restoring boiler pressure is often a straightforward job. Most modern heating systems should show a pressure of around 1 to 1.5 bar when the system is cold. If the gauge has fallen below around 0.5 bar, the system may need to be topped up. 

The exact process depends on the type of filling system installed on your boiler. Some boilers use an external filling loop with two valves, while others have an internal key or a simple lever underneath the boiler. 

Before topping up the pressure, switch the heating off and allow the system to cool. Open the filling connection slowly and keep an eye on the pressure gauge. Once it reaches the recommended level, close the filling valves and check that the pressure remains stable. 

One important point that homeowners often overlook is how frequently they need to repressurise the system. Topping up once or twice a year can be normal. However, if you are adding pressure every few weeks, there could be a leak, faulty valve, expansion vessel problem, or another issue within the heating system.
